Living with a Mexican Family offers you an opportunity to practice your new language skills every day. This is our top recommendation for students trying to learn a second language during their stay in Guanajuato. However, there are alternatives should you decide the homestay option is not for you.
The Homestay option
We take the selection of our host families seriously and look for those who wish to provide more than just room and board. These are families interested in your wellbeing and who appreciate the opportunity for a real cultural exchange. We prescreen everyone and provide them with continuous feedback based on student evaluations. Also, if, for any reason, you are not happy with your family placement, the Instituto will make every effort to find another family better suited to your needs.
Each of our families offers a shared room and bath or a private room for a small additional fee (see below). Accommodations include, at a minimum, a bed, a nightstand, a desk or other suitable study/workspace, a chair, a lamp, and a window. The homestay option also includes three delicious meals per day, transportation to and from the Instituto for classes, and airport or bus station pick-up for those who stay at least 2 weeks. Otherwise, the fee is $50 U.S. dollars round-trip. Personal laundry service is not included but is often offered for a nominal fee by your host family. There are also laundry services in town.
Beyond the obvious benefits of a real-life situation to practice your Spanish, the homestay option is also the most economical housing option, especially for longer stays.

We have four furnished apartments available for rent on school grounds on a first-come first-served basis. All prices are in U.S. dollars.
